8,879 ghost workers uncovered in Kogi state civil service

A total of 8, 879 ghost workers have been uncovered in Kogi State. This was confirmed in the final report of the state Staff Verification and Complaints Review Committee which was submitted on Monday.
The final report specifically classified 43,522 workers as ‘Cleared’, 32,753 as ‘Uncleared’ and 8,879 as confirmed ghost workers.
An Appeal committee was inaugurated in Lokoja, the State capital yesterday by the state government to review the Report of the Screening Committee
A statement yesterday by Mr Gbenga Olorunpomi on behalf of the committee said, “The Kogi State Staff Verification and Complaints Review Committee submitted its final Report which classified 43,522 workers as ‘Cleared’, 32,753 as ‘Uncleared’ and 8,879 as confirmed ghost workers.
“A stringent application of the recommendations of the Report would affect in no small measure.
“Therefore, as a demonstration of His Excellency’s magnanimity to workers on the ‘Uncleared’ list, this APPEALS PANEL is being inaugurated in order to provide a soft landing for some categories of persons within that classification.
“The 32-member Committee comprising representation from public service, labour union, civil society organization in the State has been charged to discharge their duties with utmost sense of responsibility.
“The Committee shall be headed by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) and reports directly to the Governor.
“The Committee has 6 weeks from today to submit its report. It should ensure that no genuine worker is left uncleared. They are to attend to those whose names have been omitted from both cleared and uncleared lists”, the statement said.
