8 persons kill in skirmish between herdsmen and Koh community in Adamawa.

No fewer than eight persons have been killed and several others injured in a skirmish involving Koh community and the Fulani herdsmen in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
An eyewitness account was to the effect that the skirmish started on Saturdayafternoon when a Fulani herdsman trespassed into a farm belonging to a member of the Koh community as a result of that the owner of the farm who was closed by raised the alarm.
He said the development attracted other members of the community who came out in their hundreds to chase the Fulani herdsman and his cattle, adding that the herdsman escaped from his chasers and went to mobilse other herdsmen for a clash with members of Koh community.
The eyewitness claimed that skirmish resulted in the killing of eight persons and seven injured and rushed to a specialist and Zinth Hospital in Yola, the state capital, adding among the seven injured two persons were critically injured .
Earlier this year the herdsmen attacked four villages – including Koh community resulting in the death of over 40 persons, with many forced to take refuge in neighbouring towns.
The leaders of the Koh community have also alerted the security agencies in the state for there have been running battles between the herdsmen, who come to the area to graze their cattle and communities.
A politician and a stakeholder in the state, Mr. PP Elisha, also confirmed the attack and said two of his relatives were killed in the clashed – including a police a man, who was on leave.
He said that the policeman was hit by a stray bullet when he was trying to run for safety.
He said that the clashed resulted in the dead of several persons that he was yet to get the exact figure of the casualties.
However, the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, DSP Abubakar Othman, confirmed that only one person was killed in the clash between the herdsmen and members of the Koh community.
Othman said the situation was under control, as he added that the police force had since deployed their men to curb the situation.
