5000 refugees, IDPs trained, resettled in North West – Refugees Commission

The Zonal Coordinator, North/West zone, comprising Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara and Kebbi States, Musa Muhammed Kangiwa has said that so far the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in North/West zone had successfully been trained and resettled at least 5000 refugees and internally displaced persons in Kebbi, Birnin Gwari, parts of Zamfara towns like Bungudu, Zurmi where there is prevalence of banditry.

The Zonal Coordinator who made the disclosure in his office in Birnin Kebbi, added that those trained IDPS or refugees were given starter packs as takeoff grant from the Commission to enable them start their learned trade.

While applauding the federal government for her handling of internally displaced persons across affected States, Musa decried the level of insecurity in the country, saying influx of migrants are the resultant effect of security lapses. He urged the federal government to do more in that regard.

As a sign of mutual working relationship with its similar body, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Kebbi state warmly received Sadiyya Kangiwa, the national leader of the Commission when they brought intervention for Maiyama flood victims in Kebbi state.
