4 cops, other detained over shooting of female bus passenger

The Delta State Police Command has arrested four policemen and another who were allegedly involved in the shooting of a female passenger in a commercial bus in Ibusa near Asaba at the weekend.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who confirmed the arrest and detention of the of the policemen to journalists on Sunday, disclosed that the policemen were facing trial over alleged shooting of a female bus passenger upon the refusal of the bus driver to part away with N100.00.

The Police boss, who refused to give the names of the policemen, reaffirmed the Command’s readiness at all times to ensure fairness and justice in all its dealings with members of the public.

His words: “The following steps were taken as a result of the unfortunate alleged shooting incident. I ordered the arrest of the four members of the team for not preventing the escape of the culprit. The Divisional Police Officer and the ASP who is the team leader have been queried for lacking in supervision and the sum of N100,000 has been made available for the immediate treatment of the victim as well as to save her life”.

He added that investigation was ongoing as photographs and other documentary evidence has been attached to the case diary.

Expectedly, the four policemen allegedly shot at the female passenger along Ibusa Ogwashi-Uku Road upon the refusal of the commercial bus driver to part with N100.00 after which one of them escaped and was arrested alongside before others.

But the Police Commissioner added that “the fleeing suspect F/No. 424188 Sergeant Samson Abuo was arrested alongside four others who allegedly were involved in the crime and they are currently undergoing trials.”

Meanwhile, following the anger over the increasing rate of motorcycle thieves in Ika nation, particularly Agbor and its environs, luck at the weekend ran out of a young man (name withheld) who upon apprehension was reportedly lynched to death by angry mob in Umunede. Eyewitness said that following the unbearable record of missing motorcycles especially on every Ogbe Market Day in Umunede, the angry mob descended on the victim and allegedly strangled him to death but the Police officers in Umunede who did not want their names in the print confirmed that the suspect was lynched upon his confession to have been involved in several motor cycle theft in the area and assured that Police will continue to do its best for members of the public.
