250 students benefit scholarships in Omu-Aran
A philanthropic and educational foundation in Kwara State, Sunday
Babalola Foundation, has awarded scholarships to 250 pupils/students
in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during the second edition of award of scholarships to
beneficiaries in Omu-Aran on Thursday, the founder of the foundation,
Engineer Sunday Babalola, said a total number of 140 indigent
pupils/students from secondary schools, polytechnics and universities
of Omu Aran town were awarded the scholarship by the foundation last
year.
Engineer Babalola, who said the gesture had been extended to other
towns in the Irepodun local government area in this year’s edition,
added that the extension increased the number of beneficiaries to 250.
The donor said his gesture was not driven by any political ambition or
consideration, added that it was in furtherance of his commitment to
human capital development as a strategy to address hardship, poverty,
unemployment and crime.
“It is also another contribution of mine to societal wellbeing and
development of the citizen of my State”, he said.
Engineer Babalola, a governorship aspirant in the state, also lamented
state of primary and post-primary public schools in the state and
called on the state government, corporate organisations and
individuals to encourage education by living up to public expectation.
“The shortfall of revenues from the federation account is taking
financial tolls on many states, Kwara inclusive, coupled with job
losses, infrastructural decadence, poor environment and inadequate
motivation for workers in the education sector.
