2019: I’ve not abandoned my guber ambition for Senate – Isiaka

Contrary to rumours going round that the two-time governorship candidate in Ogun State, Prince Gboyega Isiaka may have dumped his governorship ambition for the Senatorial seat, Prince Isiaka said the rumour is a rider.

Prince Isiaka said his political ambition for 2019 is predicated on governorship of the state and not a senatorial seat in the National Assembly.

He spoke during a meeting he held with the members of Imeko-Afon Council of Baales in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the state.

Isiaka, who also held series of meetings with youths and women in his local government of origin, debunked insinuations in some quarters that he had decided to jettison his gubernatorial aspiration.

According to him, it is not true that he has resolved to pursue senatorial ticket in a certain political party.

He said, “Nothing can be farther from the truth. It is laughable to think that I will abandon my people at a time when the chance of victory is brightest.

“Let me assure you all that I remain resolved on this course and will pursue it till I get to office on May 29th 2019.”

Isiaka noted that as the season of politics had begun with the release of timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), rumours and innuendos would be the order of the day.

He urged the people to ignore anything that is contrary to what he believes in and stands for.

Isiaka, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in 2015, assured the council members that he was determined to make them proud and win the forthcoming governorship election.

“The desire to address the challenges in our local communities and towns are the very reasons why I am still in the race and by the will of God and the support of all of Ogun State citizens, I will make life more abundant for all as the governor of the state,” he added.

He thanked the traditional chiefs for their unflinching support over the years, saying: “I cannot but express my sincere appreciation for the kind words and support of our Baales. It is always an overwhelming feeling when you get the love and affection of your people.”

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of the Council, who is also the Baale of Alagba, Chief Joseph Iroko, affirmed their support for Isiaka’s desire to govern the state.

Iroko also appealed to people of the local government to shun money politics as 2019 general elections draw nearer.

“I appeal to our people not to look at what they will gain immediately from other politicians for now. The growth of our community should be paramount to us,” he said.
