2019: Enugu community threatens to withdraw support for PDP over relocation of development centre

Members of People Democratic Party (PDP) in Nkpunano ward in Nsukka LGA of Enugu state has threatened to withdraw their support from the party over the planned relocation of Nsukka Central Development Centre from the present location to Nru ward.
The members of the ruling party in the state in a peaceful protest during PDP Local government stakeholders meeting at Nkpunano ward, through their spokesman, Mr. Benji Obayi said PDP members and residents of Nkpunano community are unhappy on the alleged plan by Nsukka Local Government Area to relocate the Development Centre headquarters that had been in Nkpunano since under the administration of former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani.
“We hope the alleged relocation plan is a rumour because if it is true PDP members from Nkpunano will be forced to withdraw their support from the party since it no longer recognizes our contribution.
“This development centre has been in a rented building in Nkpunano ward since its creation by the then Gov. Nnamani.
“And now that the local government wants to erect a permanent structure, we feel that the council should have giving us the go ahead to provide land for the erecting of the Development Centre in Nkpunano instead of relocating it to Nru ward.
“We want Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to intervene by stopping the Chairman from carrying out this plan of injustice to Nkpunano community, he said.
Obayi also urged the PDP Chairman in Nsukka LGA, Mr. Fabian Onah to use his good office to talk to Nsukka LGA Chairman, Mr. Patrick Omeje that people of Nkpunano believed that the alleged relocation of the Development centre to Nru ward will be injustice to Nkpunano ward if it’s true.
The people want all those in authority to ensure that the planned relocation is reversed.
The PDP chairman in Nsukka, Hon. Fabian Onah promised to speak with the Nsukka LGA chairman to find true position of the matter.
“The party valued supports and contributions of every PDP member in Enugu State and Nigeria in general,” he said.
Efforts to get comments from Nsukka LGA Chairman, Mr. Patrick Omeje on the issue proved abortive as he was said to have travelled outside the country.
However, the Vice-chairman of the council, Mr. Cosmos Agbo when contacted said that the present location of the Development area is temporary but said he had no knowledge of government’s plan to relocate it to a permanent site.
“All I know is that the present location of the Development Area is at a temporary place, but if there is any plans to relocate it to a permanent site I do not know.
“You people can seek further comments from my principal as he is more competent to speak on this issue,” he said.
