2 NSCDC operatives nabbed for pipeline vandalisation

Two operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), AS 11 Julius Olusanya and Senior Inspector Adeniyi Elijah have been arrested for their involvement in pipeline vandalisation.

The suspects who were arrested by the Sector Commander, IGP Special Taskforce and pipe line vandalisation team Superintendent of Police, Adetarami Adegbehin and his men had vandalized and stolen PMS at the Mechanic village, Toll gate and around pipe line axis of Ogun state.

Recovered from the suspects were four vehicles filled with about 100 jerry cans of PMS product.

According to information gathered from a reliable source at the scene of the crime, the Civil Defence officers with their gang members were accosted around 6:30pm in the evening of Tuesday October 23, along the high way.

The eye witness who chose to be anonymous, said what baffled everyone around was the fact that the suspects were among the officers assign to guard the pipe line.

He said, “This is not the first time they would be doing it, they’ve been into it for sometime. They carry fire arms and you might not know what they are up to.

“The Sector Commander who was just on a follow up on information at his disposal about illegal vandal at the Mechanic Village, decided to mobilize his men for patrol.

“The operation was successful as they arrested unexpected suspects while others are at large.”

It was also learnt that another suspect arrested is said to be a civilian who immediately after his arrest started confessing to the crime and said he was only asked to come and assist the officers.

When the Chief Security Officer of NNPC, Mr Akinola was contacted about the issue he said, “I am not aware but the only one I saw was the man that died during the process of vandalisation last week.”

When contacted for comments, the Sector Commander IGP Special Taskforce and Pipeline Vandalisation did not pick his call.

On getting to the Civil Defence Office in Shagamu, the Deputy Divisional Officer said he was not aware of the issue and directed us to Abeokuta.

A reliable source also authenticates the information saying that some of the civil Defence senior officers have been lobbying to get their operatives off the hook of the Sector Commander.

The spokesperson for Ogun State NSCDC was also contacted but his phone was not reachable as at production time.
