Zamfara Police stops bandits’ invasion in Maru, arrests suspect in Kaura
The Zamfara State Police Command has foiled an attempted invasion of Maru metropolis by armed bandits who planned a mass abduction, also intercepted a Golf vehicle conveying a large quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in a strategic yuletide operation.
Acting on timely intelligence, a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, Community Protection Guards, and Vigilante Groups swiftly engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat with suspected gunshot injuries. No casualties or abductions were recorded.
However , Security has since been reinforced in Maru and surrounding areas.
As contained in a statement by DSP Yazid Abubakar, anipr, the state Police Public Relations Officer, it was acknowledged that, the operations were in furtherance of the commitment of the Zamfara State Police Command to rid the State of criminal elements and the menace of illicit drugs.
Similarly, on Sunday, 28th December, 2025, at about 1000 hours, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol (SHP) stationed at Kasuwan Daji along Kaura Namoda Road, led by ASP Atahiru Mohamed, while on routine stop-and-search duty, intercepted a Golf vehicle conveying a large quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Upon sighting the patrol team, the driver of the vehicle attempted to escape but was successfully apprehended with the assistance of members of the Kasuwan Daji community. The suspect was arrested, and the exhibits were recovered.
The case is currently under investigation with a view to identifying and arresting other members of the suspected drug trafficking network.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, psc+, commended the vigilance, the professionalism of the operatives and cooperation of the good people of Maru and Kasuwan Daji for their timely assistance, and urges members of the public to sustain this collaboration with the Police in the fight against drug-related offences and other criminal activities across the State.
