Zamfara govt inaugurates NYSC governing board members, pledges continued support
The Zamfara State Government has formally inaugurated nine members for the State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Governing Board and reaffirmed commitment to enhance the welfare and security of corps members serving in the state.
According to the statement by Suleman Aliyu Gusau, the Information Officer, Ministry of Youth and Support, the inauguration ceremony was held today at the J.B. Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for the Ministry of Youth and Support Development, Alhaji Tasi’u Musa Shinkafi, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the NYSC scheme under the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal.
According to him, since the assumption of office by Governor Dauda Lawal, the narrative of Zamfara State has changed positively across various sectors, including youth development.
He noted that the state government completed the construction of a new NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Tsafe, built to standard to provide a conducive environment for corps members during orientation exercises.
However, due to prevailing security concerns, the camp was handed over to the Nigerian Army for use as offices and accommodation to enhance operational effectiveness.
He added that the Governor subsequently directed the Ministry to identify a secure and suitable alternative location for NYSC orientation activities. As a result, the UBE Training Centre, Bypass Gusau, was selected as a temporary orientation camp and has been equipped with the necessary facilities.
Alhaji Shinkafi further disclosed that the Governor reviewed the previous state allowances paid to corps members and approved an increase to improve their welfare.
“Let me categorically remind all of us that we have been inaugurated to continue assisting the Zamfara State Government in exploring ways to improve the welfare of corps members serving the good people of Zamfara State.”
The Chairman also charged members of the Governing Board to diligently discharge their responsibilities in line with the rescue mission agenda of the Governor Dauda Lawal administration, which prioritizes security, health, infrastructure, agriculture, welfare, and opportunities for the people of Zamfara State to thrive.

Also speaking during the presentation of appointment letters, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Support Development, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima Kaura, commended Governor Dauda Lawal for his consistent support to the NYSC scheme. He highlighted the provision of regular food supplies, logistics support, transportation, and a conducive environment for corps members.
He further noted that the recent increase in state allowances by over 100 percent for medical doctors and other corps member demonstrates the strong commitment of the state government to corps members’ welfare.
The Permanent Secretary urged board members to remain committed to their duties and ensure that every corps member posted to Zamfara State feels safe, supported, and valued.
In his remarks, the Zamfara State NYSC Coordinator, Malam Lawal Ahmad, expressed gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal for his unwavering support and dedication to putting smiles on the faces of corps members serving in the state.
