In a statement addressing the claims, Zaaki clarified that he was not even in Lagos at the time of the incident and had not received any police invitation or warrant of arrest.
In a video shared on his official Instagram page, Zaaki described the reports as “fake and misleading,” urging the public to disregard them.
“My attention has been drawn to the fake and misleading news circulating on social media and in media houses about me, Ruggedman, Sunny Neji being at large over union issues,” he said.
He explained that the situation being misrepresented involved internal decisions made by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN), which he is part of, alongside Ruggedman, Sunny Neji and others. According to him, the NWC recently suspended former PMAN President Pretty Okafor for actions allegedly not in line with the association’s constitution.
“The issues we have is removing our former PMAN President about union issues that was not in line with our constitution,” he clarified.
Zaaki did not mince words in warning those spreading the rumour. “To cut the long story short, the reason I am doing this video is to warn all these people carrying this fake news to desist,” he said. “Apart from that, investigations are already going on. I will investigate to find out the source of this fake news.”
He emphasized his commitment to protecting his reputation and holding those responsible accountable. “Because the only thing I have is my name and my integrity,” he stated. “I will not let this slide. I will investigate to the last to find out where and the source of this news.”
Zaaki further warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable. “I will sue any person or organization that I find are the ones enabling this fake and misleading news about my person, my integrity, and my name,” he declared. “It is defamatory and I won’t let it slide.”
