Youth aspirants seek quota system in political parties

Youth aspirants in Nigeria are demanding for flexibility in the political sphere, urging political parties to implement quota system that will mandate the inclusion of youths in elective positions.

This call aims at changing the internal democracies of parties to accommodate new crop of young leaders and facilitate the inclusion of people living with disabilities for elective positions.

In a gathering of over 50 young aspirants from across the country in Abuja, on Wednesday, in a forum organised by Young stars development initiative, participants unanimously agree political parties need to reserve elective positions for youths, just as some parties have done for female party card holders.

The executive director, Young Stars Foundation, Kingsley Bangwell, said the first step towards increasing youth participation is getting more young people to join political parties.
