“You Have Made Public Service Worthwhile” — Osinbajo Lauds Governor Otti
Former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his purposeful and people-centered leadership, stating that his administration has successfully repositioned the state for sustainable growth.
Osinbajo made these remarks during a visit to the governor on Wednesday, an occasion that coincided with Otti’s birthday.
The former Vice President expressed deep appreciation for Otti’s performance in office, emphasizing that the true essence of public service lies in making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people.
“I am extremely proud of the work you have done so far. You have lived up to expectations — not only to the people but also to your friends and associates. In the short time I have been here, I have seen tangible evidence of progress,” the former Vice President said.
Singling out specific achievements, Osinbajo commended Otti’s social welfare reforms, particularly his assent to the Senior Citizens’ Law.
He described the initiative as an exemplary model rooted in compassion and social responsibility, stressing that successful welfare systems are built on genuine care for the vulnerable.
The former Vice President also praised the extensive road infrastructure renewal and improved connectivity across Abia, viewing the projects as visible symbols of results-driven leadership.
Reflecting on the challenges of governance, Osinbajo observed that while many aspire to public office, true distinction is found in the delivery of promises.
“Sometimes you wonder whether, after all the efforts to get into office, leaders are able to fulfil their promises. But in your case, you have done not just what you promised, but even more. You have made public service worthwhile,” he added.
In his response, Governor Otti warmly welcomed Osinbajo, describing the former Vice President as a brother, friend, and mentor.
Otti clarified that the gathering was not a planned birthday celebration but a modest marking of the day, explaining his preference for focusing on service rather than public festivities while in office.
Expressing gratitude for the progress recorded during his tenure, Otti described his administration’s achievements as modest but impactful. He reiterated his core belief that governance must always remain centered on the citizens.
“Governance is about the people, their welfare, their safety and their peace of mind. If you enter office for any other reason, you miss the essence of leadership,” Otti said.
The governor also recalled the decisive actions taken during his administration’s first month to restore order in local governments previously controlled by non-state actors.
He commended the security agencies for their dedication in ensuring that previously inaccessible communities are now safe and open to residents.
“We are grateful to the men and women who stay awake so that our people can sleep in peace,” he said.
The gathering featured goodwill messages from the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, on behalf of the State Executive Council, as well as representatives from major financial institutions who described Otti as a benchmark for ethical and effective governance.
