“You are our strongest ambassadors” — Odumegwu-Ojukwu hails Super Falcons

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has described the Super Falcons as Nigeria’s “strongest ambassadors” following their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

In a statement congratulating the team, Odumegwu-Ojukwu praised their stunning comeback against hosts Morocco in the final on Saturday night.

The Falcons defied a first-half setback to claim the title for a record 10th time—a feat no other African team has achieved.

Before the final, the minister had posted a viral video urging the Falcons to “go all out” and bring the trophy home. In that message, she described the team as formidable, indisputable, and the nation’s strongest ambassadors.

“You have, once again, made us proud. You didn’t allow the setback of the first half to weigh you down,” she said.

“Fired by the typical Nigerian spirit, you came into the second stanza of the game and stamped your authority in every department, dominated it, not minding the vociferous supporters of the host opponents. With your fantastic and stunning performance, you silenced the crowd.”

Odumegwu-Ojukwu commended the Falcons’ resilience and unity, describing their performance as a textbook example of championship character.

“The truth is that you clearly displayed the heart of true champions: exceptional character, discipline, resilience, and unity of purpose, and the mission was emphatically accomplished to the consternation of the host,” she said.

“You are our immutable and strongest ambassadors. I thank you for once again making Nigeria proud.”

The Super Falcons’ 3–2 win over Morocco marked another milestone in their legacy as Africa’s most decorated women’s football team.
