Yoruba youths condemn herdsmen attack on Ondo farmlands

A group, the Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) has strongly condemned a recent attack on some farmlands in Ondo state by the rampaging Fulani herdsmen.
The group described the attack as very wicked and an insult on the peace loving people especially the farmers who solely depend on farming to survive in the state
Last week Thursday, some rampaging Fulani herdsmen had invaded and attack a settlement at Arodoye in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
During the attack, the invaders destroyed no fewer than 200 acres of farmland with farm produce and killed a middle woman, Mrs. Patience Ibrahim.
Report says these Fulani herdsmen also set a cocoa farm belonging to one of the leaders in the local community on fire.
Some local farmers who spoke over the lost said the notorious Fulani herdsmen invaded the farmlands during festivities break and looted all their produce.
Emiola Owoeye, the State Chairperson of the YYC condemned the attack through electronic statement issued on Sunday and obtained by Daily Times in Akure.
Owoeye noted that the unwholesome activities of the Fulani herdsmen were becoming alarming as they operate on farmlands without being challenged.
She expressed grief over the continuous attacks and destruction of farmlands by the Fulani herdsmen who have now turn into a monster and dreaded group.
“This unwholesome activities of the herdsmen is now causing unimaginable pains on farmers mostly in the local areas of the state who solely depend on farming for survival and sustenance.”
“We urge security agents to fish out the criminals committing heinous crimes against innocent people and deal with them according the law” she added.
Owoeye urged both the state and federal governments to collaborate in ensuring the activities of the invaders are curtail and also provide adequate security for the farmers in rural areas of the state.
She specifically asked the Ondo State Government to work on the anti-grazing bill that could control the activities of the killer Fulani herdsmen in the state.
