Yelwa crisis: Bauchi Emir harps on peaceful coexistence

Residents in Bauchi, particularly Yelwa area of the state have been urged to live in peace with one another irrespective of their differences for the development of the State and the country as a whole.
The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Dr Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu made the call in Bauchi Yesterday.
A traditional title holder Durumin Bauchi who doubles as the Village head of Birshi, Alhaji Lawal Ahmad, disclosed this while speaking to journalists on the recent civil disturbance which claimed the lives of three and injuring eight persons in the area,
Alhaji Ahmad said the emir of Bauchi Alhaji Dr Suleiman Adamu and the District head of Miri have asked all the village heads and ward heads and the people of their domain to ensure harmonious and peaceful coexistence for the development of their area.
He said People should avoid doing anything that will disrupt the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in their areas.
The village Head pointed out that the recent unrest that occurred in Yelwa has ended and that people should reconcile and continue with their normal activities and give peace a chance for the development of the area and the state at large.
“There is no alternative to peace, without peace everything will collapse, all aspect of under development will arise and you will not achieve anything under chaos and unrest situation”. Alhaji Ahmad said.
He added that “the area is calm now and people are doing their normal activities, everything has picked up. So appreciate the Bauchi State Governor, Emir of Bauchi, District Head of Miri , State Commissioner of Police , Divisional Police officer and other Stake holders and the people of the area that contribute to the return of peace”.
Alhaji Ahmad called on youths and wards’ heads not to allow anyone to disrupt peace in their domain, assuring that security agencies are always on alert to protect lives and properties and are ready to apprehend anyone that might attempt to disrupt peace in Bauchi.
Also, the Ward head of Yelwa Tsakani, Mr Philip T. Tapshin under whose Jurisdiction the unrest started explained that, “to put the record straight when I heard about the incident
I called the community leader in the area and asked him why are they doing party at this hour since ceremonies at night in the area have been banned,
I didn’t called the village head as reported in some national dailies, I only called a community leader of the area not village head as reported”.
Tapshin who thanked the village head, Security agencies and the Bauchi State Government for their quick intervention which help and restore law and order further warned youths in the area to avoid doing anything that is capable of disrupting the existing peace in the state.
