The Federal government has warned Nigerians to avoid travelling to high risk and volatile areas in South Africa, pending when the xenophobic attacks is adequately handled.
The personal assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed the Press statement on his twitter handle on Monday.
The statement which was signed by Ferdinand Nwonye, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign affairs, stated that the Federal government is engaging relevant South African authorities through the Nigerian high Commision in Pretoria, Consulate general in Johannesburg and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, to ensure that definite measures are put in place to control the situations.
The Federal Government commended the South African Police for the arrest recorded so far and urged them to persecute the perpetrators in order to serve as deterrence to others.
