Woman beheaded in Kano over alleged blasphemy

There was pandemonium at Kofar Wambe Market in Kano on Thursday evening as a woman was beheaded for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
Eye witnesses who spoke with Daily Times revealed that the woman whose identity is yet to be known, was in the market to purchase some items from her customer popularly known as Ustaz. That the Ustaz engaged the woman in a religious joke which the woman’s response was said to be blasphemous.
Efforts to save the woman by those who were around and listening to the conversation failed as an angry mob overpowered them leading to the slaughter of the woman.
Policemen were immediately deployed to the market shooting tear gas to calm the situation, thereby forcing shop owners to lock up shops over fear of what could happen next.
This is coming at a time the state government is challenging the decision of an appeal court which set free five persons sentenced to death last year by a sharia court in Kano over same issue.
