In a resounding demonstration of governance in action, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, yesterday officially commissioned the newly constructed Naharati-Ukya access road with two-span river bridges in Abaji Area Council, Abuja.

The project, a 5-kilometer stretch, marks the fulfillment of a commitment made during a stakeholder meeting in late 2023.

Addressing a jubilant audience, Wike began by wishing residents a happy new year and expressing gratitude for their cooperation, while reminding them of the promise made during the October 2023 stakeholder meeting when the community identified the Naharati-Ukya road as a priority project.

“We consulted you, and you told us what was most important. Today, we are delivering on that promise,” Wike said.

He praised the chairman of the Abaji Area Council for effectively communicating the community’s needs and pledged continued support for the area.

The minister also announced that two additional police divisions would be provided in Abaji to bolster security.

“In a few months, we will return to hand over these police divisions. Security is key, and we will not compromise on that,” Wike assured.

Wike lauded the construction company for completing the road and bridges ahead of schedule.

“We flagged off this project in January 2024, and they completed it in November. Today, we are here to commission it,” he said. The project’s timely completion underscores the administration’s commitment to meeting deadlines.

The FCT Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to develop the Abaji University infrastructure, reinforcing the administration’s focus on education and capacity building. He noted that the road’s strategic importance became evident during his site visits, particularly during the bridge construction phase.

“The people of Abaji have shown remarkable support. Without your cooperation, this project might not have been completed on time,” Wike said.

He emphasized that the administration is dedicated to not only developing the city center but also transforming satellite towns.

As part of a week-long commissioning tour across the six area councils, Wike reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable development.

“We want everyone to know that we are not just focused on the city. As we develop the city, we are equally committed to the satellite towns,” he said.

Wike extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the opportunity to contribute to Abuja’s development. He also appreciated the Abaji community for bestowing him with a title, which he revealed means “Light of the People.”

“This administration is truly the ‘Light of Nigeria.’ Under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria will achieve the greatness we all envision,” Wike said confidently. He reassured the public that the administration would deliver on every promise made, distancing itself from the perception of politicians who fail to keep their word.

The minister commended security agencies for their relentless efforts in addressing security challenges in the FCT. “Your work is commendable, but we urge you to continue doing more to ensure the safety of our people,” Wike said.

Looking ahead, Wike revealed plans to include another major road project for Abaji in the 2025 budget, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.

“As we approach the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration in May, expect the commissioning of many more projects in satellite towns,” Wike said.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering inclusive growth and providing essential infrastructure. Residents expressed gratitude for the newly constructed road, describing it as a catalyst for economic and social transformation.
