Against perceived doubt of their participation in the November 2, 2024, Local Government Council election as announced by Abia State Independent Electorial Commission, the State Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council IPAC, Mr. Chimezie Uluocha has advised opposition parties to consider participating in the election for the interest of grassroot democracy and State.
Speaking to The Daily Times in Umuahia, over the weekend, Uluocha defended the ABSIEC November 2 date which many political parties were against it would not give them enough time to organize and prepare for the election, insisted that no date would have been appropriate than the date as announced by ABSIEC.
” The Federal Government has given a deadline for States to conduct thier Local Government Council election before ending of December,2024 and failure to do that will automatically stop remittance of monthly Federal Government Allocation to Local Government Areas under transitional arrangement.

He said despite being members from different political parties, thier major concern of everyone should be for the State to conduct a credible and participatory election.
Recall that the ABSIEC Chairman, Prof. George Chima had while unevilng the Local Government Council Election Time said the commission would not consider changing the November 2 date, as there were still more time for the parties to prepare for the election.
According to the chairman, by the time table ,political parties are expected to have conducted thier primaries for Chairmanships and Councilorship before 2 October 2024,
