Obafemi Richard Jegede is one the young, agile vibrant entrepreneur who believes every curvaceous lady deserve a good and healthy lifestyle.
He is the chief executive director of Curvaceous Lifestyle Africa. The company that was established in South Africa with the aim of promoting and empowering curvaceous women.
This is an industry that has suffered a major setback in the modeling industry. According to research, some ladies in this category feel intimidated by the slim and big ladies as most of the cloths made by designers are majorly for either the skinny or the plus size ladies.
Now, Obafemi, the CEO Curvaceous Lifestyle Africa is coming to Nigeria to fill this vacuum and reorientate ladies on reason why they should be proud of their natural endowment.
While speaking about the concept behind the brand he said “Curvaceous Lifestyle is basically into promoting women and fight against any form of women abuse and body shaming.
The brand is exclusive because if you look at the modeling industry, the industry has made us believe that, to be a model, you have to be slim, beautiful and tall or you have to be big which is plus size.
But the women at the center, which is my niche market, are the curvaceous. The likes of Omotola Jolade, Mercy Johnson and others are not plus size, they are curvaceous.
So, our focus is women like that because women like that have lost their confidence. We’re creating a platform for them.
We’re helping them to find themselves and to find their fit and to give them confidence that they can become whatever they want to become in the industry.”
He also emphasized on the need why the ladies need to look harder because the industry doesn’t make enough clothes for their shape.
So in the end, they won’t have to worry about wearing the same Forever 21 dress every other girl is wearing saying “The idea was conceived around 2009 but I started running it in 2010.
And I did a research at three different malls in South Africa where I asked them what and where they are lacking from? I was made to understand that, they hardly find their choice sizes anytime they go for shopping.
So, most time what they will do is because they like the jeans, they will buy the jeans and they will go and slim fit, then the jean is no more original.”
“Our coming to Nigeria will expose these ladies and also give them room to showcase what they have while making money.”
When he was asked about the acceptance, he said “The acceptance has been awesome in South Africa. I started the pageant Miss Curvaceous in 2013 and 2015, I introduced reality show into it.
We’ve done our fashion show; we do promotion and brand activation. We’ve worked with Lady Gaga brand, Lady Gaga Films, Dimension Data and other top brands in South Africa and we hope to do the same in Nigeria.
