‘What a contradiction’ — Onanuga tackles El-Rufai over attacks on Tinubu’s government

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, has called out Nasir El-Rufai over his incessant verbal attacks on President Tinubu-led administration.
In a statement released on his official X platform on Monday morning, Onanuga attacked the contradictory nature of the ex-Kaduna state governor over his Sunday interview with Channels TV.
Nasir El-Rufai, in his interview with Channels TV had called out the inefficiency of the president and affirmed that he would struggle to make a distant third in the next election.
Tweeting a part of the video interview, Onanuga highlighted El-Rufai’s assertion that meaningful changes cannot be effected in the first 4 years of an administration yet won’t stop attacking Tinubu who is just 2 years and a few months into his tenure as president.
“Nasir El-Rufai confesses here that four years is not enough for a political office holder to make ‘meaningful changes’.
“Yet he is at the forefront of the gang of political desperados plotting President Tinubu’s ouster, just two years into his tenure. What a contradiction!
“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers and Kaduna, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes in our country over the past two years, positioning us on the path of prosperity,” he said.
Onanuga further outlined the achievements of the president having spent two years in office; which include increased foreign reserves, NELFUND loan to students, balance of payment surplus amongst others.
“The positive indicators are all there for the world to see—for example, increased foreign reserves, the highest in 44 months.
“Phenomenal wealth creation in the stock market has seen ASI skyrocket from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points. Over N26 trillion in additional wealth has been created in the market under Tinubu’s watch.
“National revenue has increased phenomenally, and the record will be broken again this year and even next year when the revolutionary tax reform is implemented,” he added.
Bayo Onanuga also mentioned that the governors are happy because “states and local councils are receiving more money from the centre, enabling them to embark on capital projects, creating more jobs.”
However, the claim seems to contradict the reality of Osun state as Governor Adeleke allegedly pays workers’ salaries from his pocket due to FG’s refusal to obey court instruction to release local government allowances.
Nonetheless, Onanuga has attributed El-Rufai’s attack against the president as an act of bitterness and hoped that his plot to destabilize the country does not come to pass.
“Yet, these power-hungry politicians want the President, who has achieved so much, to be removed, all because they have become politically displaced and irrelevant.
“May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people,” he concluded.
