We’ll only recognize political parties identified by INEC – IPAC
The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has informed that it will only work with and recognize various political parties identified by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, in the country.
The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP, Accord Party (AP, amongst others, are currently facing an internal crisis leading to division and political factions in the political climate.
Speaking with journalists on Monday at the ruling party’s National Secretariat, Buhari House, Abuja, the Deputy National Women leader of the party, who is also the Vice Chairman of IPAC, Hajia Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, said, “Any faction of the opposition parties not recognized by INEC, is not known to IPAC.”
“For political factions, IPAC will relate strictly with INEC. It is the names of party leaders on the INEC portal that IPAC works with. We have no business with factional disputes,” she said.
On her recent emergence as the Vice Chairman of IPAC, Hajia Zainab said the organisation has three women in its executive roll, instead of the zero gender inclusion obtained previously.
She promised to create dialogue and foster cordial relationships among political parties, to deepen democracy.
“I intend to be a pillar of stability to promote dialogue and consensus among political parties. I will also ensure the promotion of electoral integrity by championing the implementation of the Electoral Act and ensuring compliance by all parties.
“I belong to the ruling party, the APC, and that gives me an edge. IPAC will also benefit immensely from my position in the ruling party.
“I will also, promote inclusivity by carrying along vulnerable groups, persons with disabilities, youths, especially women, championing electoral and democratic reforms by ensuring IPAC’s recommendations are taken seriously by the ruling party, both in the legislative and executive arms of Government.
“Furthermore, I will foster dialogue and respond to opposition’s concerns constructively, ensuring mutual respect rather than toxic rivalry. IPAC is not an opposition body; the ruling party is also a member.
“I will ensure the vision and objectives of my party, clearly understood within IPAC so that stakeholders understand its direction, ensuring IPAC leads by example by setting standards for internal democracy, transparency, and accountability,” she explained.
