We inherited corrupt salary regime, Bauchi gov alleges

By Samuel Luka

Bauchi state governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has alleged that the present administration under his watch inherited a pre-existing corrupt salary structure in the state civil service.

The governor who stated this at a media parley with stakeholders on challenges of salary payment and issues of nominal/payrolls revealed that Bauchi state in 2015 had a total wage bill of less than N4.5 billion.

He however expressed surprise that as of today, the wage bill has climaxed to N7billion despite the fact that some civil servants have either retired or died.

“By the act of commission, collusion and distortion, Bauchi state is facing a monumental task of sorting out what is evidently a pre-existing corrupt salary regime,” Governor Bala said.

In an effort to correct the anomalies, the governor informed that financial management consultants have been engaged by the state government to find a lasting solution.

“We are identifying culprits, and we will name them, and jail them if found guilty,” the governor vowed. Bala noted that at the beginning of his administration, he promised prompt payment of salaries and has been doing so.

He pledged his administration’s commitment at ensuring that the state acquires a perfect system of payment of salaries to better serve the people of Bauchi state.
