The Kano state Attorney-General Ibrahim Muktar has denied reports that dethroned emir of Kano was banished from Kano State.
Recalled that the 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was on Monday removed by the Kano state government and replaced with Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, as the 15th Emir of Kano.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, on Monday announced the unanimous decision of the council saying the removal of the monarch followed alleged disrespect to lawful instructions by the state governor.
Buhari ordered Sanusi’s removal as Emir of Kano, Kwankwaso alleges
According to him, the persistent refusal of the Emir to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the government without any justification amounting to insubordination is part of what has informed his removal.
He said that it was on record that Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II had been found breaching Part 3 Section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate law 2019.
He said if such attitude was left unchecked, it would destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate.
“This removal is made after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders and in compliance with Part 3 section 13 of the Kano State Emirate law 2019 and other reasons stated above.
“The removal was reached to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over a thousand years.
Speaking on Wednesday on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme Kano state Attorney-General Ibrahim Muktar said that the government of the state never banished from Kano State Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II and that the Kano State Government was not part of the decision to banish the dethroned emir from the state.
“If you listen to the Secretary to the State Government when he was addressing the press on the issue of the removal of the emir from office, there was no where he stated that the emir was banished from Kano State. “So, the decision of the government when the emir was removed on Monday was that he was removed from office and a new one appointed. The issue of banishment was not part of the decision of the Kano State Government
“We have been hearing from the media that he has been banished but what I know is that he was taken out of Kano State but banishment was not part of our decision. There is no such decision to the best of my knowledge.” Muktar said
Muktar also said that the state government has not taken the law into its hands as he explained that the decision to remove the emir from office is administrative and was not based on the issues pending before the court. ‘All the issues pending before the court have nothing to do with the removal of the emir or the dethronement.”
