WCQ: Supporters Club declare fasting for Eagles

With few weeks to the September 1, Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Uyo, members of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club have declared three days weekly fasting for the team to enable it defeat their opponent in the double header clash.

President General of the Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo told Extra Time that the fasting christened, “Operation tame the Lions” will hold on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays of every week prior to the date of the match while there will be three days fasting on the week of the match proper.

“All members of the Supporters club have come to realise that we need serious prayers and some elements of luck to enable the Super Eagles beat Cameroon home and away and that is why we are embarking on the fasting.

“We are all aware that Nigeria failed to qualify for two consecutive AFCON finals and we don’t want that to happen again especially in the World Cup.

This prompted members to take the decision because luck and prayers are necessary for us to beat Cameroon in Uyo and at least pick a point in Yaoundé and qualify for Russia 2018,” Ladipo said.

He noted that part of the strategies mapped by the club is to mobilize of all members at home and in Cameroon positing that their target is to mobilize over 5,000 members who will cheer the Super Eagles to victory.

He appealed to the NFF to ensure they take the welfare of the players serious ahead of the all-important ties.

Ladipo while explaining that the club needs between N30m and N40m to be in Cameroon for the match appealed to Corporate Nigeria to come to their rescue, as he announced that the club will on Sunday morning embark on road trip to Cotonou to cheer the home-based Super Eagles to victory as they confront Squirrels of Benin Republic in the first leg of Kenya 2017 CHAN qualifiers.
