Ward Congresses Held by APC in Abia.
In a calm and well-organized operation, the All Progressives Congress in Umuahia North successfully held its ward congresses throughout the state on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Emmanuel Goar, the chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, pledged that the committee would rigorously follow the harmonization directive and hold credible, transparent congresses that represent the wishes of party stakeholders.
Goar led a delegation from the party’s National Working Committee to observe the congresses.
Additionally, Independent National Electoral Commission representatives were dispersed throughout the wards to watch the proceedings. After observing the exercise, Goar spoke to party members and expressed his satisfaction with the congresses’ orderly and peaceful conduct.
He claimed that the degree of engagement and zeal shown by members was a clear sign of the party’s increasing power in the state.
“I am certain that Abia State is APC based on what I have observed on the ground. He said, “The APC in Abia State will record a massive victory for President Tinubu in 2027 with the determination of the members I have seen here today.”
Stanley Ohajuruka also spoke, praising party members for the remarkable turnout in all wards. He expressed gratitude to Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and all state stakeholders for their dedication and hard work in making sure the congress ran smoothly and credibly.
In addition to congratulating the winners in each ward, he reminded them of the accountability expected of them as local leaders.
Ward executives, in his opinion, are essential to the party’s success and must put forth great effort to ensure that President Tinubu and all other APC candidates win at the ward level in the 2027 elections.
In advance of the general elections in 2027, the ward congress represents an important milestone in the party’s internal democratic process.
The Local Government Congresses will take place throughout Abia State on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as part of the ongoing congress process.
Prior to the ward congresses, Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, reaffirmed that the APC had unified its ward and local government congresses in order to improve party unity and cohesiveness.
Speaking to party supporters that Wednesday at the Renewed Hope Partners office in Umuahia, Kalu said the decision was the result of agreements made by the party’s leadership under President Bola Tinubu, whom he referred to as the party’s father and a devoted democrat.
He asserts that by ensuring that no one person owns the party, harmonisation guarantees inclusivity by providing a sense of belonging to all stakeholders in the selection of leaders at all levels, from the ward to the state. “Every member owns APC; no one is greater than the party,” he continued. The party has sovereignty.
However, there is no need to hold any other kind of congress other than the one that fortifies our unity—a congress of harmonization—in order to maintain the cohesiveness that currently exists within our party.
“Harmonization is the process by which stakeholders are given a sense of belonging in choosing who will lead from their ward to their local government as well as the state, where everyone is given a sense of importance and relevance, making it clear that no one person owns the party.”
“Not anyone, not Benjamin Kalu. The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s president has that vision. “I can’t even say my party; I like saying our party,” he said when I met with him, the deputy speaker noted.
He revealed that as a member of the party’s NEC and caucus, it was decided that there would be no multiple forms or parallel processes that could lead to conflict. He also added that when there were deviations, the President insisted that the NEC and caucus decisions be upheld, which prompted the National Chairman and the National Working Committee to act quickly.
In order to restore ownership of the party to the grassroots members, Kalu clarified that the resolution of the previous impasse made it possible for him to return to Abia and supervise the execution of the agreed-upon harmonised congresses.
