War against Corruption: Improve Civil servants earnings, NCPC to FG

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Uja Tor Uja has advocated for improved earnings for the nation’s civil service to effectively fight out corruption in the country.

He also said the Federal Government should extend tax dividends to include people who work for Government and not just education as in education tax fund.

Rev. Ujah stated this in Abuja during a retirement sent forth party for one of the commission’s retiree, Mr. Danjuma Elabi, Director of Administration, at the Commission Corporate Headquarters, Abuja on Monday.

The Executive Secretary commended the federal government for making efforts to review the national minimum wage of workers saying; “improvement in working conditions of public servants should be effected across board; most Nigerian workers are differential beggars. The public appointees are on a salary that cannot build a house or buy you a car.

“Government should extend tax dividends to include the people that work for government and not just in education alone as in education Tax Fund as this will help improve the earning capacity, poor working conditions of public servants and reduce corruption as public servants who are well catered for would not see the need to steal from the government”.

He admonished the government to set up a formidable platform and scheme of disengagement of public servants where civil servants prior to retirement, would undergo mental and physical training and empowerment adding, “Most honest public servants cannot even set up farms, business or formidable things that they can fall back on for sustenance after retirement”.

Rev also commended the retiring Director of administration explaining that Mr. Danjuma Elabi, is a man that is peaceful to a fault. He congratulated him for starting and finishing strong and honorably.

He charged him to retire to life and greater achievements and not to death and penury.

“Thank you for your contributions in moving NCPC forward and to the height it has attained today. As an accomplished administrator, you brought your wealth of experience to bear in the Commission.

Your stint in NCPC though short, was enviable and fruitful; within this period of selfless service you were able to leave an indelible mark in the sands of time in the Commission”, he said.

Mr. Danjuma Elabi In his response thanked the Executive Secretary for his giant strides, speed and efficiency of service. He thanked the staff and management of NCPC for their cooperation and conducive working atmosphere which he enjoyed while serving as the Director of Administration.
