Visit to Buhari: AkwaIbom APC Disowns Ex-Governor Victor Attah

The Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 31 local government areas of AkwaIbom State have disassociated themselves from  last week’s visit by a group led by the former governor of the State, Obong Victor Attah,  to the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.

According to them, the group purporting to represent the AkwaIbom chapter of the APC was actually a visit of stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).The Victor Attah-led delegation visited Buhari last Friday, May 8, 2015.

However, the chapter chairmen in a statement made available to journalists yesterday said “the PDP delegation led by former state governor and life member of the PDP Board of trustees, Obong Victor Attah, masqueraded itself as that of the stakeholders of the APC in AkwaIbom State, to confuse and mislead the president-elect”, adding that the state chapter of the party was at the verge of a courtesy visit to Buhari.
“It would have been more dignifying for the Obong Victor Attah-led team to have correctly informed Nigerians that a delegation of the AkwaIbom State PDP leaders were on a visit to the President-elect and was gladly welcomed by the fatherly favour of the President-elect, whose policy is to be available to every Nigerian or group no matter how treacherous, altruistic or disguised they might be.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the APC AkwaIbom Chapter, like every other chapter of the party in Nigeria, is at the verge of a courtesy visit to their president-elect to be led by national officers, BOT members, national legislator and other elders of the party, to share with their president-elect the joy, expectations and challenges of their victory at the just-concluded national polls.
“Commendable as the visit was in apprising the president-elect of his immediate challenge in office regarding AkwaIbom State, Obong Victor Attah and his group lied to the president-elect and Nigerians by trying to pass their delegation as that of the stakeholders of the APC AkwaIbom State, a development that could confuse the president-elect or at least mislead him.
