Violence mars election of NDU Alumni Association

Niger Delta University Alumni Association NDUAA election held on Saturday at Law faculty in Ovum, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State was disrupted as some of the members alleged that the process had been compromised, leading to hijack of accreditation materials and destruction of ballot boxes and papers.
What began as a peaceful process with accreditation that began at 8am rapidly became heated when the Electoral Committee (ELECO) disclosed that those that graduated 2015, 2016 and 2017 cannot vote until members from 2005 to 2014 cast their votes because the commission was not with the comprehensive list of the fresh graduates.
The aggrieved fresh graduates and supporters of some of the aspirants, who were no longer satisfied with the process, forced themselves into the election hall and began to destroy and hijack ballot boxes and papers.
Secretary for NDUAA Electoral Committee, George Izibenadu later announced a meeting with all aspirants and some organs of the association for the purpose of forestalling a repeat of the challenges experienced . A New date for the election is expected to be communicated soon.
