Victory over Boko Haram depend on officers sense of judgment- Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt . Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said that victory in the on- going counter insurgency operations in the North- East is crucial and will dependent on officers sense of judgment.

The COAS also said that the situation will depend on the officers’ appreciation and ability to make accurate and timely decisions, saying that, ” If we have to win in these complex scenario, then the Nigerian Army must become a learning organization”.

Buratai disclosed this on Friday during the graduation of 33 pioneer participants of the Army War College in Abuja.

He said that professionalism and responsiveness remain his key focus in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous joint operating environment that the officers face in the course of their assignment.

He said, “We must constantly remember that our adversaries have a vote and they are constantly adapting to our actions, reactions and counteractions.”

Also addressing the graduating students, the Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS) Gen Abayomi Olonisakin said that the training has embedded on the graduants skills on operational art that will fill the gap between tactical and strategic levels.

He said the establishment of the Army War College underscores the importance the government placed on raising professional military education to international standard.

Olonisakin noted that training has played an important role in moulding, professionalising and having a disciplined Nigerian Army which has been able to maintain the country territorial integrity.

” This has also led to the significant degrading of the Boko Haram capabilities as well as ensuring security for our citizens against criminal elements.”

He assured that the government will continue to support the military with all the tools necessary to carry out its task.
