Vandals to face heard times in FCT

Persons who vandalise public utilities are now faces tougher times in the Federal Capital Territory. Not only would they be apprehended, they will be made to face the full weight of the law.

The warning was given by the Director, Department of Monitoring and Inspection, Tpl. Olawale Labiyi, during an inspection visit to ascertain the capacity of drainages and manholes as well as examine illegal motor parks, hawking, bleeding manholes and other problems around Utako, Jabi, Asokoro, Garki 1, Wuse 1, and Wuse 11.

The director called on residents to avoid blocking drainages to avoid flooding during the rainy season. He also called on residents to be vigilant to apprehend those who steal manhole covers, adding that keeping the FCT environment clean is of top most importance to the authorities of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

As part of efforts to rid the environment of nuisance and problems, the department conducted a city monitoring site visit which included the management team. Some of the sites visited were Asokoro, Mahatma Ghandi Crescent, Garki 1, Area 3 junction, Tafawa Balewa Way, Wuse 11, Fomella Street and other districts of FCT.

The team for the visit, which was led by Tpl Labiyi, went round the city, including some flashpoints to ascertain issues with the aim of reporting same to relevant departments and agencies.
