US Embassy, Consulate in Nigeria to close September 1 for Labour Day

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will not open to the public on Monday, September 1, 2025.

The US Mission said the closure is in observance of Labour Day, a federal holiday in the United States, and not connected to any diplomatic issue.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025, in observance of the U.S. Labour Day,” the Mission announced in a post on its X account on Sunday.

The holiday, first proposed in 1882 by labour activist Matthew Maguire, is dedicated to recognising the contributions of American workers.
