The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigerian security agencies to support ongoing security operations in the country.
The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced the delivery in a post on X on Tuesday, saying the support is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s counter-terrorism and broader security efforts as part of Washington’s strategy to deepen operational cooperation with partners in West Africa.
The delivery comes days after a Christmas Day US air strike targeting ISWAP fighters in Sokoto. Following the strike, US President Donald Trump warned of further action against extremist groups accused of targeting Christians.
In October 2025, Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” over allegations of Christian genocide. He also described the country as “disgraceful” and threatened military action if the government continued to “allow killing of Christians”.
Nigeria has faced persistent attacks by armed groups in recent years, particularly in the north and northwest.
The federal government has yet to issue an official statement on the latest US military support.
