UPDATE: Ekiti PDP Chairman Removed, Deputy Takes Over

The Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Executive Council has removed the party’s chairman, Chief Idowu Faleye, from office and replaced him with the Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Olatunde Olatunde.

Olatunde disclosed this to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.

He alleged that Faleye was removed for alleged inefficiency and refusal to call meeting since he was appointed in acting capacity following the elevation of the former chairman, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe, as Chairman, South West zone of the party.

Olatunde, who spoke along with the Public Relations Officer of the party, Chief Joseph Daraniwon, however, said the governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, had not been officially informed of the development promising to brief him before the week runs out.

Olatunde also dismissed insinuation that the new change is a fallout of the skirmishes between the governor and the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu over bad outing of the party in last general elections.

Olatunde added “We discovered some errors in the appointment of Idowu Faleye following the elevation of Mr Ogundipe as the Chairman of the party in the South West.

“He was removed for inefficiency and again he has not called a meeting since he was appointed as acting chairman. We also discovered that Faleye came from the same Ido Ward 1 in Ido Osi local government where the Youth Leader of the party also hails from. As at that time, he was not elected and the SEC has not ratified his appointment. We told him all these at our meeting on Tuesday and he willingly stepped down after thanking us.”

Olatunde, who hails from Ilejemeje local government in Ekiti North Senatorial District, justified his choice from the Northern senatorial district, said the meeting where Faleye was sacked was called by SEC but presided over by the embattled chairman.

He said “Two thirds of SEC members can call a meeting when the chairman refused to call one. We are making a change for the betterment of our party in Ekiti state and we are making efforts to unite all factions in the party.”

He however said the new change will not generate crisis in the state.
