UNN workers protest deduction of salary, seizure of cheque off dues

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, on Tuesday protested against what they called the illegal deduction of their salaries and seizure of their cheque off dues.

A staff of the university who preferred to be anonymous confirmed to the Daily Times that the management of UNN has been withholding their cheque off dues from January 2017 till date and has been deducting five percent illegally from their monthly salaries without any clear reasons.

“We have waited for the management to come up with explanation but they have refused to do come up with any. The only option was for us to carry out this peaceful protest within to press home our demand,” he said.

When contacted on phone the branch chairman of SSAUN-UNN, Mr. Paul Eruah confirmed the deduction of salary and seizure of cheque off dues but said he was in meeting and cannot say anything further.

Daily Times gathered from a source that the meeting may not be unconnected with the issue of the protest.

SSANU.

Efforts made to speak with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Benjamin Ozumba, proved abortive as at the time of this report.
