Public universities in the country are yet to receive the N20 billion revitalization fund approved by the federal government.
Disclosing this to reporters in Awka yesterday, the Owerri zonal coordinator of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU) Mr Uzor Onyebinama said that “We heard of it but we have not seen it. This is one year after the agreement was reached on the said fund and the universities are yet to receive the money”.
Onyebinama noted that other agreements reached by ASSU and government have also not been met by government and announced the union plan to go one strike.
“Among other reasons why we are going on strike include, collapse of the 2017/2018 renegotiation of 2009 FG ASSU agreement due to government insistence the introduction of exorbitant tuition fees beyond the reach of Nigerians,” he said.
