Union tasks politicians on citizens’ education in Nasarawa


The National Union of Eggon Students (NUES), has called on well meaning politicians to embark on educational policies and programmes that would elevate the standard of education in the country.

National President of the association, Mr Affiku Danjuma, made the call yesterday, in Akun, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government area of Nasarawa state, while presenting awards of excellence to some distinguished Eggon sons and daughters.

According to him, “The development of any society depends on the quality of education that is given to its children”.

He further called on politicians and philanthropist to initiate programmes that would address youths’ unemployment and improve on their standard of living.

Those awarded includes, Hon. Jacob Kudu, an aspirant for the state House of Assembly seat of Nassarawa Eggon East, Mr Manza Ali, the ECDA National President and Hon Mary Enwongulu, a Commissioner nominee.

Other awardees according to Danjuma, were Isaac Kigbu, a philanthropist, Emmanuel David Umbugadu, the Nasarawa State PDP governorship candidate, Affiku Kuje , Esla Allu and Daniel Anyuabaga, the Eggon Youth Movement(EYM) National President.

“They have contribute positively to the development of the association and humanity, through the initiation of projects, humanitarian services as well as assisting students with fund among others, hence the need for their awards, He added.

Speaking earlier, the guest speaker of the occasion Dr Solomon Anzah of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, who due on “Accountability and leadership” urged the union leaders and other leaders to be accountable while discharging their duties.

Responding on behalf of other awardees, Mr. Jacob Kudu, a Nasarawa state House of Assembly candidate under the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) said the award would spur them more to contribute positively to the development of the association and Nigeria at large.
