UNICEF, UNESCO to establish e-library in Enugu

Two agencies of the United Nations – United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisa tion (UNESCO) – are to establish an e-library in Enugu State, to avail the students and pupils the opportunity to improve on their e-learning generally.

UNICEF Country representative in Nigeria, Ms. Jean Gough,  who gave the hint, on Monday, in Enugu assured that her agency would liaise with  UNESCO to establish an e- library, in furtherance of the global body’s disposition to sustainable learning.

The promise followed on the heels of a passionate appeal made by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi while addressing a retreat by the country team of The United Nations held at Nike Lake Hotel, Enugu. The governor observed that the state was honoured by the presence of the UN family made up of all its specialised agencies.

He pointed out that  Enugu State had, indeed, been a key beneficiary of the UN programmes in Nigeria, especially in the UNICEF assisted programmes that focus on women and children. He noted that the state was a mother and child friendly state and had continued to maintain a free child and maternal care programme, which had been running for the past eight years.
