Unemployed charged with stealing N16,000 chicken, gizzard; gets N50,000 bail

An unemployed man, Emeka Ifererole, who allegedly stole a carton of chicken and gizzard worth N16,000, was on Thursday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
The accused, whose address was not mentioned, was arraigned on a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Akpam Ikem, said that the accused committed the offence on July 3, at Olowololowo Market, Morogbo, Badagry.
Ikem said that the accused stole the food items from the complainant, Mrs Damilola Ajayi.
“The accused bought two cartons of chicken, but when he was about to leave, he took two additional cartons, thinking that he would not be noticed.
“Before he could get away with them, the complainant caught him,” he said.
Ikem said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Aug. 30 for further hearing.
