Uncollected PVCs: Tinubu threatens to sack council chairmen
…Dangles automatic return ticket
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has told all elected chairmen of local governments and local council development areas in Lagos State to immediately commence mobilisation for the collection of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) towards the 2019 election in their various councils.
Tinubu said their efforts at mobilisation for the collection of the PVC will either mar or make them in their re-election bid, as those with the highest number of uncollected PVCs risk being removed from office and those with the least number of uncollected PVC will get automatic return ticket.
Tinubu who spoke at a stakeholders consultative meeting of the party at the APC secretariat on Acme Road in Ikeja Lagos, said that PVC was the most important thing at this time of the nation’s political life and that it is only if the people collect their PVC that they can be sure to have the power to exercise their franchise.
Tinubu also used the opportunity to intimate the people that the primary in the state for the next election will be held line with the new direction of the national leadership of the party, which is by direct primary.
According to him those that will fly the flag of the party at next year’s general elections will emerge through direct primaries which will involve all members of the party.
To this end, Tinubu said the party will immediately commence the process of registering new members, while the old members who have registered before now as well as the new members would all be issued membership cards.
He said it was gratifying to report that the party had resolved to register additional members, adding that membership register would be opened to facilitate the process, which eventually would be used for direct primaries.
He said: “We appeal to all our members to update their membership registration and embrace the direct primary that has just been introduced and adopted by our party. We are committed to our party; we are committed to the values of the party; we see direct primary as President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption and internal democracy revolution”.
The APC leader also told all aspirants to go back to their areas and work hard towards their election as he only has a single vote and will not endorse any aspirant, while also advising them not to borrow to pursue their electoral mandate.
While also advising them to maintain peace at the primary, Tinubu said anyone who fights during the party primary will be expelled from the poarty.
