Umo Eno: 15,000 apply for 3,000 civil service jobs in Akwa Ibom

Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom, says 15,000 applications have been received for the 3,000 vacancies recently declared in the state civil service.
Eno said the openings followed a verification exercise that uncovered 3,000 ghost workers in the state workforce.
Speaking during the monthly prayer service in Uyo, the governor said the recruitment will cut across the teaching service, health sector, and core civil service, with 1,000 applicants to be employed in each category.
He assured that the process would be transparent and merit-based, adding that candidates will undergo a computer-based test with instant results.
“There are no slots, and there is no favouritism,” Eno said.
The governor recalled that previous recruitment exercises in the state were often marred by favouritism and lack of transparency, which created anxiety among applicants. He added that his administration is committed to restoring confidence in the system.
On state projects, Eno said he inspected 23 project sites in the past two days and was impressed by the involvement of young people, engineers, artisans, and women leading different initiatives.
“This is the spirit we must embrace: more hard work,” he said.
Eno also announced that the third phase of food distribution for vulnerable households will begin on August 20 as part of efforts to cushion the effect of economic hardship on families in the state.
