UBTH: Doctors mourn sudden death of colleague

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), has been thrown into mourning, following the death of one of their senior colleagues and surgeon, Dr. Okeoghene Ejigba.

Dr. Okeoghene Ejigba, who is a senior registrar in the department of surgery, UBTH was said to have collapsed in the call room after performing several surgical operations.

Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, Joshua Uwaila, confirmed the incident and assured that the Hospital will embark on a medical investigation to ascertain the cause of the death.

Uwaila who noted that management, staff and students of the Hospital share in the grief of the deceased family, expressed sadness over the sudden death of the doctor.

The UBTH Spokesman added that the deceased family and the Hospital is in a period of mourning.

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), UBTH Chapter, had yesterday on its tweeter handle posted that Dr. Ejigba collapsed and died after performing four surgeries back to back.

“We lost Dr. Okeoghene Ejigba a senior registrar in the department of surgery. He died while on call duty, after performing four surgeries back to back. He collapsed in the call room and every attempt at resuscitation proved abortive”.
