Uber driver robbed after knife-wielding stranger attacks

An Uber delivery driver was just playing on his phone when he was attacked by a knife-wielding man demanding money.

Sydney driver Karan, 20, was waiting for his next job when his assailant kicked him in the face and threatened him with a pocketknife.

“I just tell him that I have money in my account, so you can come, I will withdraw from ATM,” Karan told 9News.

“He also told me, don’t do any stupid thing – don’t run or anything like that (or) I’ll stab you.”

Karan was waiting for his next Uber booking when a stranger kicked him in the face and demanded money.

Police said the attacker threatened Karan with a second, larger knife on the way to the ATM.

But Karan eventually outsmarted the crook – asking if he could use another ATM instead of Commonwealth, so he wouldn’t be slugged a bank fee.

Then, he made his break for it.

Karan ran into a nearby Pizza Hut, where he asked staff to call police.

His attacker ran back to steal Karan’s scooter, delivery bag and wallet.

The bike has since been found, but the thief hasn’t.

Detective Acting Superintendent Despa Fitzgerald said it was a “cowardly and vicious attack”.
