U20 WAFU Cup: Flying Eagles off to Togo by road

The Flying Eagles are expected to embark on a seven-hour road trip from Lagos to Lome, Togo, for this year’s U20 WAFU Cup.

The team led by coach Paul Aigbogun were due to fly out to Togo today, but their departure has now been moved to tomorrow.

The original plan was to fly directly to Togo from Togo, but that has now been jettisoned and the team will first fly to Lagos tomorrow before they made the bust trip to Lome, which will not be less than seven hours.

At the weekend, the Flying Eagles beat 2018 Aiteo Cup beaten finalists Kano Pillars 3-1 in a friendly in Abuja.

Their opening match will be on Sunday against Benin Republic.

Arch-rivals Ghana and Niger are also in Group B.

Several of the teams will use this sub-regional tournament to prepare for the U20 AFCON in Niger in February, which will produce four teams for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup.
