Two warring communities in C’River sign peace pact

Two warring communities of Ababene and Iyamitet in Obubra local government area of Cross River state have signed a peace pact. Speaking at the occasion, which was held at the boundary between the traditional clans of both communities, the people unanimously agreed that never again would they carry arms against each other.

The chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Hon Ernest Irek, expressed delight that peace has returned to the communities after several months of war. According to him, with the signing of the peace accord, both communities will now continue to live like brothers and sisters as they had always been in the past.

The facilitator of the peace accord and a son of Mbembe land, Mr. Chris Agara, said bringing peace to all warring communities in Obubra has always been his desire and was happy that God has been able to use him to actualize it between the Ababene and Iyamitet communities.

He expressed optimism that the peace accord by both communities will stand the test of time for rapid development.

On his part, the member of the House of Representatives (Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency), Hon Mike Etaba, commended the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, for commissioning Mr. Chris Agara to make peace between the two communities.

He expressed delight that what seemed like an illusion has been brought to fruition, adding that peace remains the imperative for development. The highpoint of the event was a cash donation by the facilitator to the communities as well as cultural displays from the four traditional clans of Obubra and other performances.
