Two Bandits Killed by OPWS Troops in Benue, Automatic Firearm Recovered.
Two bandits who were planning to disturb the peace in the Amaafu Iwer area of Benue State were neutralized by troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), and an automatic firearm was recovered.
The troops accomplished the feat during a combined fighting and confidence-building patrol along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road, according to a statement signed by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer JTF OPWS.
According to Zubairu, the troops quickly mobilized to the scene in coordination with members of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (CPG) after receiving reliable information from the locals.
He claimed that when the troops arrived at the designated spot, they engaged the suspected bandits. Two of them were killed during the ensuing battle, while the others fled into the nearby bush, possibly suffering gunshot wounds.
According to him, the troops searched the location and found an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two green camouflage uniforms that the escaping criminals had left behind.
Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander of OPWS, praised the troops’ bravery, professionalism, and quick reaction, stating that their proactive attitude and dedication to duty have continued to produce favorable outcomes in the battle against terrorism and banditry.
Additionally, Major General Gara thanked local residents for their timely and useful intelligence, which is still essential for successful operations.
