Trouble in APGA As 5000 Members Defect To PDP

The much rumoured palace coup in the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Anambra State was hashed when over 5000 members of the party defected to the People’s Democratic Party PDP.

Among the APGA members that defected to the PDP include aggrieved chairmanship and councillorship aspirants whose names were allegedly changed with those that did not contest in the party primaries.

In a mega rally held in Agulu at Anaocha local government area, mr Peter Obi’s home town, all the executive members of Obi ‘s cabinet also joined the PDP as well as the Director General of Gov Willie Obiano Campaign organization, Bar Jeo Martins Uzodike.

Speaking during the rally organized by the former members of APGA in honour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP senatorial candidate for Anambra central senatorial zone, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, the former APGA State women leader, Mrs. Edith Nwokedi said they dumped the party because of the noticeable ills bedeviling the party.

Mrs. Nwokedi further said that their decision to dump the party was informed by the undemocratic posture of the leadership of the party, adding that with the recent development in the party, their decided to defect to the PDP which she described as the mainstream of Nigerian politics.

“We decided to dump APGA because it has become very clear that the party has no vision and has lost its value. The leadership of the party has been seriously bastardized and we have also seen in Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, a woman with passion to bring developmental stride to the people of the zone.

In his own remarks, the former Director General of Governor Willie Obiano campaign organization, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike said the leadership of APGA has made the people of the state to lose interest in the party, hence the mass defection.

He said that due to the lingering crisis in the party, it is no longer healthy for anybody to continue to stay in the party, adding that the party has suffered for so many years in the hands of the national leader whom he accused of using the party to enrich himself.

Also speaking, the Director General of Aggrieved Councilors Forum, Chief Chuks Anaje said they have vowed to stop the senatorial ambition of the national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh because of what he called fraudulent handling of the party affairs.

He lamented that despite the money and other resources they wasted during the last chairmanship and councillorship election, they were allegedly defrauded by the leadership of the party and said their decision to stop Chief Umeh was a task they must accomplish.

Mrs. Uche Ekwunife while receiving the 5000 former members of APGA into PDP welcomed them into the party which she said is the only political party that will accommodate the interest of Ndigbo and develop the South East parts of the country.

She assured that she will always work towards their liberation through her quality representation which she said will only be made possible if the entire people of Anambra central senatorial zone come out en mass to vote for PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan.
