Troost-Ekong out of Nigeria, Mali clash

Norway-based defender William Troost-Ekong will miss Nigeria’s friendly against Mali in Rouen, France, on May 27 because of club engagements.
“Troost-Ekong has been excused for the Mali game on account of a crucial cup game involving his club on May 25. He is his club captain and the earliest he can join the Eagles will be on May 26, which effectively rules him out of the Mali game the next day,” a top NFF official said.
“But he will get his chance in the second friendly in Luxembourg now slated for May 31.”
FK Haugesund will be away to Bodo/Glimt in the fourth round of the NM Cupen on Wednesday, May 25.
Ekong, 22, made his debut for the Super Eagles in June 2015 in an AFCON 2017 qualifier against Chad in Kaduna.
The defender, who is on loan at Norwegian club Haugesund from Belgian club Gent, has represented the Netherlands at U-19 and U-20 levels as he was born there and his mother is Dutch.
