Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack In Borno

Instead of mourning, the community of Mainok are in celebration mood for being alive.
The community of Mainok in Kaga Local Government area of Borno State would have been mourning today while counting their loss.

But that was not the case, as they instead celebrated having escaped what would have been another Boko Haram onslaught.

This is thanks to troops of the Nigerian Army who repelled the looming attack on the community that has recorded high number of returnees due to relative peace in the area.

The troops engaged the insurgents in gun battle at Mainok, about 73km drive from the state capital Maiduguri and killed about 10 of the Boko Haram members, and wounded others when they tried to infiltrate a military unit in the town.

Alhaji Lawal Wasaram, a former chairman of the council, who confirmed the incident, said it occurred at about 6:00 p.m. when a group of insurgents, moving on two trucks and motorcycles, tried to infiltrate the town from a nearby bush.

“The gallant troops successfully repelled the insurgent and protected the town from attack.

“It is difficult to ascertain the causalities; about 10 insurgents were killed and several others wounded in the failed attempt to attack Mainok,” he told NAN.
